Being the most acoustic-sounding song on the album, this track allowed me to make greater
use of my degree in classical guitar. The melody is a variation of a standard medieval guitar
etude, “Italiana,” which was one of the first pieces I learned when studying guitar, hence the title
“Formative Years.” This track meant to be a reflection of the experience that helped shape who I
am and the role classical guitar has played in my development as a musician.
